Denver Police implement new hours for district stations

1/3/2019

To increase the number of officers patrolling our neighborhoods, the Denver Police Department has implemented new hours of operation for the front desks at its six District Stations. Beginning January 1, 2019, the District Station front desks will close between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Currently, an officer is posted at each of the six District Station front desks 24 hours a day, 7 day a week, to assist the public with walk-in reports and phone inquiries. With these new hours of operation, the officers who would normally be posted to the front desks during those hours will be assigned to a patrol car, allowing for more officers to respond to calls for service.

Anyone needing police services between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. should call 911 for emergencies or 720-913-2000 for non-emergency situations. The Denver Police Department also accepts online reports for certain types of crimes at www.Denvergov.org/police.

S. Federal Improvements/ Mejoras al Corredor de la Federal Sur

10/17/2018

The Federal Boulevard Corridor Plan (2017) provides both long-term visions for the future of Federal Boulevard as well as short-term and “quick win” projects that will transform the corridor. This plan is the result of a multi-year effort by community stakeholders, local organizations, and governmental agencies.
Beginning the fall of 2018, several of the recommendations outlined in the Plan will begin to take shape along South Federal Boulevard, primarily from Alameda Avenue south to Mississippi Avenue. These include:
  • Green Infrastructure Improvements within the Public-Right-of-Way
  • Little Saigon Business District – Placemaking Initiative
  • Intersection Improvements at Exposition, Kentucky and Mississippi • Center Median
  • Street Repaving

Fall is here and so is Denver’s LeafDrop

9/26/2018

Picture
Three weekday drop-off sites will be open this year through December 7
The leaves changing colors are a pretty sight, but when they fall, make sure they don’t end up in the trash! Give those leaves a second life through Denver’s LeafDrop program, which will turn those fallen leaves into compost. Starting Monday, October 1, three free weekday drop-off sites will be open to Denver residents through Friday, December 7. The leaves collected through this program will be turned into a high-quality compost, which will be made available for residents to purchase in May. Learn more here!

Weekday Drop-Off Sites
Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 2:00pm
  • Cherry Creek Transfer Station – 7301 E. Jewell Ave. (Quebec Street & Cherry Creek Dr. South)
  • Havana Nursery – 10450 Smith Rd. (Just south of I-70 on Havana St.)
  • South Platte – 678 S. Jason St. (Enter on W. Exposition Ave.)
Please note, all leaves dropped-off at Havana Nursery and South Platte must be in bags (paper bags are preferred) and dropped-off during hours of operation, otherwise it is considered illegal dumping.

Another way to be environmentally friendly, break the plastic bag habit and use paper bags when raking fallen leaves instead – paper bags can also be composted! Denver Recycles, Denver Parks & Recreation’s Be A Smart Ash program, and Ace Hardware are teaming up to give away 50,000 paper leaf bags this year! Beginning Monday, Denver residents can print or download a coupon for a free 5-pack of paper leaf bags at www.denvergov.org/leafdrop. The coupon can be redeemed at participating Denver area Ace Hardware stores.

Help us manage the LeafDrop program by following these guidelines:
  • Bring your leaves in paper leaf bags, if possible.
  • Drop-off sites and free Ace Hardware paper bag offer is for Denver residents only.
  • Jack-O-Lanterns and pumpkins will be accepted for composting at drop-off sites.
  • Make sure leaves do not contain branches or other materials.
  • Never rake or blow leaves into the street, as they can clog storm sewers and street sweepers.

Weekend LeafDrop sites will be coming soon in November! More details on dates and locations can be found at www.denvergov.org/leafdrop.

Four changes to the Denver Building and Fire Code

5/7/2018

In a busy Monday night, City Council also approved four amendments to the Denver Building and Fire Code. The changes include:
  1. DBC Admin Sections 103.8 and 134: Reduced repetitive language and added a 180-day extension on permits for temporary structures that contain a residential use, like Beloved Community's temporary tiny homes.

  2. IFC Section 102.5: Added language to match requirements from the Denver Zoning Code regarding the Fire Department's review of accessory dwelling units (ADUs).

  3. IFC Section 105.6.161: Rooftop gardens or landscaped roofs of 500 square feet or larger must obtain an operational permit from Denver Fire.

  4. IRC Section R305.1: Allows for greater flexibility for basement finishes in older Denver homes (pre-1990) that cannot meet current ceiling height requirements.
Download a redlined version of the code (PDF) showing these amendments.
