The SouthWest Denver Coalition in collaboration with Denver Parks and Recreation, the Gang Reduction Initiative of Denver (GRID), Denver Public Safety Youth Programs, and District 4 Police Department to host the 10th Annual Grill & Chill Safe Summer Kickoff at Garfield Park Lake on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, rain or shine.
The Safe Summer Kickoff is a FREE, family-friendly event where attendees can learn about community and government support services while they enjoy food, live entertainment, prize giveaways and a variety of activities. The event is also an opportunity to connect youth with alternative activities during the summer to keep them busy and safe. During the event Denver Parks will be hosting a FREE fishing day stocking the lake with fish and giving youth fishing poles while they last. There will be fishing poles available for adults to borrow or bring your own. We will have volunteers providing information and to assist with fishing. Denver Parks will be promoting outdoor activities for the summer. 50 private and public community organizations will participate in this year’s Safe Summer Kickoff Resource Fair to provide information on family, youth and children services, community policing, health and wellness options, and upcoming neighborhood social activities. Bilingual staff will be available during the event, and announcements will be made in English and Spanish. Festivities at the Safe Summer Kickoff will include free face painting, games, activities, and music. Members of the Department of Public Safety, including the Fire Departments will also attend the Kickoff. The purpose of the 10th Annual Grill & Chill Safe Summer Kickoff is to build community cohesion while promoting a healthy and safe summer for Denver’s residents. Garfield Lake Park located at 1200 S.
