Barnum neighborhood residents and their four-legged friends can now enjoy Denver’s newest off-leash dog park. Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) has completed installation of fencing and other amenities at Barnum Park on North Julian Street between West 4th Ave. and West 5th Ave. The community is hosting a grand opening ceremony in partnership with DPR and City Council District 3 this Saturday, December 9, at 10 a.m. The event will include a costumed dog fashion show and a food truck will be on site.
Located on the west side of Barnum Park near the playground and tennis courts, the newly designed dog park measures 33,000 sf – more than three-quarters of an acre - and has two separate areas for dogs to play for both high and low energy dogs. Barnum Park encompasses 34-acres and serves the neighborhood with a variety of amenities including the Barnum Recreation Center, a lake, outdoor pool and splashpad, picnic shelter, mixed-use athletic field and more. With increased population and dog ownership in the city, DPR is adding to the present inventory with the facility at Barnum Park and planned locations at the new Carla Madison Recreation Center and North Stapleton. In addition, temporary dog parks were piloted this year along the Lower Cherry Creek Greenway at Speer Blvd. and Square on 21st pop-up park. With the completion of Barnum Dog Park, Denver currently operates ten dog parks for users to enjoy:
