Denver City Council is seeking qualified individuals to represent Council on the City’s Head Start Policy Council. The two open vacancies are appointments for one or two-year terms.
Purpose: The purpose of the Head Start Policy Council is to oversee all aspects of Denver’s Head Start program, to be involved in the community, promote understanding of the Head Start program, and to hear and resolve community conflicts concerning Head Start programs. Qualifications: Interested individuals must have experience in one or more of the following occupational categories: a licensed pediatrician or professional health care provider, a certified public accountant, an attorney, an individual experienced in early childhood education, an individual with experience with the operation of a non-profit organization, an individual experienced in foundation work, an experienced business owner, an individual experienced in finance and/or the management of money, and/or an individual experienced in fundraising for nonprofit purposes. (Requirements based on Denver Revised Municipal Code, Chapter 2, Section 2-143, B (4)(c)) Meetings: Currently, meetings are held the fourth Tuesday each month from 5:45 pm to 7:15 pm with a buffet dinner starting at 5:15 pm. The Head Start Policy Council meets in November annually to establish the following years’ meeting schedule, location, and time. Currently, the Policy Council meets at Clayton Learning Center at 3751 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Denver.
