Projects in the District
![]() Federal Safety Improvements
To improve safety, Denver has committed to increase traffic enforcement, enhance pedestrian education, install variable message boards, reconstruct signals at Exposition, Kentucky, Mississippi and Jewell (completed in 2019) build medians (completed in spring 2019) repave and stripe roads (ongoing), and upgrade lighting from high-pressure sodium to environmentally friendly LED. ![]() Federal Green Infrastructure
Dept. of Transportation & Infrastructure (DOTI) and CDOT will implement several improvement projects along Federal to create safer environments for pedestrians and transit users, improve water quality flowing to the South Platte River, improve air quality, enhance streetscapes, and create a sense of place that will benefit local businesses, residents and visitors. The design phase is complete and construction is expected to begin in early 2022. To help pay for ongoing maintenance and improved infrastructure, the city will explore creating a Business Improvement District. Get involved and learn more here! |
![]() Broadway Bike Lane
The two-way protected bike lane along Broadway will become permanent, connecting the Cherry Creek Trail to S. Broadway businesses and neighborhoods. The design process for the two-way protected bikeway was completed in summer 2021, and pre-construction planning is expected to begin in late-2021 with construction anticipated to start in 2022. This project is a top priority for Lucky District 7 and we continue to push DOTI to expedite its installation for increased mobility. Learn more here. |
![]() Alameda Underpass
The Alameda Bridge project will replace the Alameda bridge over South Platte River Bridge, modify the Alameda intersections with South Kalamath, SB I-25 Off Ramp, South Platte River Drive and South Lipan Street, reconstruct a portion of the South Platte River Trail, install a water quality pond and associated South Platte River outfall, and enlarge an existing water quality pond originally constructed in previous project phases. The project was partially funded with the Rise Denver Bond. The City is in the process of exploring and pursing funding for design and construction. The City is coordinating with RTD relative to property acquisition or easement for the north-south path. Info. |

![]() Iowa Underpass
The Iowa Underpass Bicycle/Pedestrian Improvements project is underway and will provide multi-modal ADA-accessible connection underneath the railroad tracks and to the South Platte River Trail, with improved crossings and new sidewalks for pedestrians and people on bikes. The Iowa Underpass project will be split into two phases. The first is the 'South Platte Greenway Access Sidewalk Improvements,’ and is the portion along Santa Fe from Florida to Jewell. This section is out for construction bid now and we expect shovels in the ground fall 2021. The other portion is the 'Iowa Underpass' and the city will be going out to bid for construction fall 2021. For more information on the project here. |
Mississippi Vision Zero Improvements
In 2019, we held a meeting on what safety improvements the community would like to see on Mississippi. The DOTI team took your information and received a $2.1M grant from CDOT to design and build the project. The safety project will reconfigure Mississippi from Eliot St to Quivas St by removing a travel lane, extending the curb lines, and building intersection medians throughout the corridor to reduce speeds, limit left turns, and provide greater comfort for pedestrians by reducing crossing distances and pedestrian refuges. |
Jewell/Evans Station Bike/Pedestrian Bridge
The Jewell and Evans pedestrian/bike bridge is a bit more complicated due to land acquisition and coordination between federal and local governments and railroads. The city is currently procuring a design consultant that will complete engineering design and construction documents for the project. We expect the design to start this summer and take about 12-months to complete. The final design will need to coordinate and get approvals from CDOT, PUD, and RTD. Construction on the project is expected to start in 2024. Learn more here. |
Alameda 2.0 Project: Safety Improvements
CDOT will install improvements to allow safer and more efficient bike, pedestrian and car connections along Alameda, helping to create a complete multi-modal corridor. Construction is expected to start in 2021 and include:

![]() Westwood - Athmar Park Neighborhood Transportation Management Program (NTMP) DOTI design kicked off an NTMP effort in Athmar, which works together with neighborhood residents to identify local street level transportation priorities and issues and design and implement transportation projects that support those priorities. DOTI will work with residents to identify and solve small to medium safety issues at that local street level. Learn more on this program.
Ruby Hill SRTS Improvements
As part of the Safe Routes to School Program to increase bicycle and pedestrian safety in school zones and on city streets, DOTI staff is planning improvements taht include:

I-25 & Broadway/Exposition Improvement Project
The City of Denver is reconstructing Exposition Avenue from Lincoln to Bannock Streets and installing new traffic signals on Exposition at Broadway and Lincoln to improve traffic flow along this stretch for people in cars, on bikes, and on foot. The project also includes widening Broadway for half a block south of Exposition to provide wider sidewalks and streetscape to enhance safety for pedestrians. Learn more here. |
